We provide a full-day discovery in a small group with a friendly, charming local guide, Wilton. He will guide you through this 0-hour sightseeing excursion in Santo Domingo and tell you everything that is worth to know.
Santo Domingo was founded in 1496 as the very first city in the new world. It preserved an exceptional patrimonial heritage which you can find in every corner of the Colonial Zone. The Caribbean Sea and the beaches are amazing, but Santo Domingo is undoubtedly the most fascinating place in the country, especially if you are into history and couture.
We start our discovery by visiting the 3 Eyes National Park. It is a limestone cave system with a breathtaking view to its inner, crystal clear lakes known as the "eyes". We advise to wear sturdy and grip shoes because it can be slippery in some parts of the cave.
Then we will head to the Faro of Colon, the final resting place of Christopher Columbus only for a quick photo stop before we would continue our sightseeing adventure to the famous Colonial Zone.
In the Colonial Zone we will discover the first cathedral of the Americas, the magnificent Cathedral Santa Maria de la Encarnacion which is also a notable architectural and artistic monument.
After the cathedral we will head to the Calle las Damas where you will see some of the oldest buildings of the old city among museums, embassies, and upscale hotels which used to be colonial buildings.
Our last stop in the Colonial Zone before lunch is the National Pantheon which used to be a Jesuit church. It stands as a national symbol of the Dominican Republic and serves as the final resting place for many of the country's most honored citizens.
We will have lunch in a small restaurant in the Colonial Zone where you can taste the most delicious Dominican specialties in an authentic environment. Once everybody's tummy is full, you will have 1-hour free time to discover the area as you wish.
During this time you can enjoy the pedestrian area of El Conde which is famous for its many shops and hidden, cozy streets waiting for you to explore. If you want to buy some souvenirs, this is the perfect time and place for that.
When the 1-hour free time is over, we will gather at the meeting point and visit a craftsman together who cuts amber and larimar. These are the two semi-precious stones of the Dominican Republic.
At last, we will check out the fascinating Museum of Dominican History where you will learn how the Dominican Republic was formed and how it managed to become an independent country.
End the tour with a free drop off at your hotel or cruise ship terminal between 0:00 pm and 0:00 pm and share the many experiences of the day with your fellow travelers or just relax and enjoy the view on the way to your resort.
Our service center and base is located at 1 La Bahia street in Bayahibe. You will find us at only a few minutes walk from Dreams hotel.
