The tour starts with a pick up at your hotel in the morning. We will advise exact pick up time after reservation based on your accommodation. Once everybody is on board, we start our 5-hour guided Puerto Plata sightseeing tour.
The city of Puerto Plata is lined by an oceanfront boulevard (Malecon) known for its open-air restaurants, shops, and nightlife. This is a scenic area to explore and enjoy Dominican culture. Right at the very end of the seafront you will see the massive stone walls of the Fortress of San Felipe, the oldest military fortification in the Americas. We will enter the fort and discover a time of pirates, cannons, battles and conquistadors of long ago.
Our next stop will be at the real heart of Puerto Plata as we stroll around the famous Central Park. This is surrounded by original Victorian gingerbread houses, museums and the picturesque Cathedral Iglesia San Felipe. In the center stands the stunning Victorian Bandstand.
We will pay a visit to the wonderful Amber Musuem. Located on the second floor of a Victorian mansion, the Amber Museum is perhaps one of Puerto Plata’s best known tourist attractions. It features collections of fossilized resin (Amber), some of which contain remarkably preserved specimens dating back millions of years.
At the Brugal Rum Distillery you will be escorted inside the huge factory which produces about one and a half million white and dark rum each year. Of course, you can buy discounted rum by the liter, as well as really nice souvenirs.
We also make a stop at Puerto Plata’s answer to Willy Wonka as we visit the Del Oro chocolate factory. Smell, taste, eat and drink the wonderful hand crafted chocolate made from organic cocoa plants cultivated and grown right here on the north coast of the Dominican Republic.
We will finish our Puerto Plata sightseeing tour with a visit to the Teleférico. Located on the top of Mount Isabel at 2555 feet (855 meters) above sea, the cable car offers you the most beautiful panoramic ocean views of the surrounding areas of Puerto Plata. It is one of the most picturesque and impressive scenery that you will possibly see here during your stay. You will have the chance to wander around in the botanical gardens atop of the mountain and visit the statue of Christ.
At the end of the Puerto Plata sightseeing excursion, ask your questions to your guide and mingle with your fellow travelers while we take you back to your hotel.
