Description

Switch the hotel scene up with remarkable underwater sights. You can choose from 3 departure times at 9:30 am, 12:30 pm and at 2:30 pm and meet us at Bobby's Marina at least 30 minutes before the excursion, so we have time to fit your gear and complete any necessary paperwork.

After you board our roomy boat for the Snuba adventure to Little Bay and we set sail, you can hang out with your fellow travelers while the professional crew prepares the Snuba diving. When we arrive your guide will show you how to use the equipment to have a safe and controlled experience underwater. With Snuba you will be able to breathe easily underwater without wearing heavy, restrictive dive gear. It is safe family fun, and really easy to learn. Follow your Snuba guide underwater and delve into the vivid turquoise waters of Little Bay.

Discover astonishing coral formations, interact with a variety of tropical reef fish, the occasional stingray and eagle ray, lobsters and crabs as you drift smoothly under the surface. You will be able to adventure among several wrecks such as a helicopter, a sunken submarine, a shipwreck, even the cannons which used to be on the walls of Fort Amsterdam.

Our boat can handle 48 participants but we operate with a maximum of 24 participants on board so you can enjoy plenty of space while relaxing on the fully shaded deck.

What is Snuba?

The Snuba excursion in St. Maarten is a professionally guided, shallow water diving program available to snorkelers and novice divers of all ages. It does not require formal training. The program is safe, easy and an appealing introduction to the underwater world. It also makes guests wonder and increases marine awareness and environmental conservancy.

Snuba's tagline ”Go beyond snorkeling” perfectly describes this adventure. The equipment and program allow guests to explore underwater using a 20ft airline. It is the ultimate ”soft adventure”.

The boat Overtaker

The main boat we run Snuba off of in St. Maarten is a 34 foot former cruise ship rescue vessel that has been equipped with ladders, a Snuba platform and side exits. As we mentioned above, it is also equipped with fresh water rinse, music and is fully shaded. It is a comfortable boat to hang out on when you are waiting for your turn. With a powerful diesel engine, brand new cabling, new steering, new everything, she cruises with a speed of about 9 knots and complies with US coastguard inspection standards. An experienced Captain makes this part of the tour complete.

The equipment

Snuba Squad is made from durable material and contains two tanks of breathing air to support a group of 4 persons to do the 25-30 minutes underwater excursion to a maximum of 6 meters (20 ft). The 6 meters (20 ft) long hose is color coded to make it easier for participants to stay in formation and it is made of a very strong material to be reliable. The harness which you will wear is connected to the Quad (via the long hose) and ensures breathing air. The dive mask and diving fins also support your underwater adventure. A weight belt is also necessary to compensate for our natural tendency to float. It will not pull you down to the bottom, but will make you neutral.

Important: It is not allowed to consume alcohol before joining this activity. Snuba is considered a dive activity so if one of the following apply, a doctor's letter is required to participate: pregnancy, recent surgery, high blood pressure, epilepsy, seizures or asthma.

Also, please note that the minimum age for Snuba is 8 years.

Royal Caribbean or Carnival Cruise Lines passengers must book the Snuba shore excursion in St. Maarten through their cruise line.

My husband and I enjoyed our Snuba adventure. They gave us plenty of instruction and attention. It was a little nerve wracking to initially breath underwater but after a few minutes I was calmed down and enjoyed the entire experience. The water is beautiful.

I booked it for my 18 yr old son and his three 18 yr old friends on their Spring Break. It took about 10 minutes to walk to Bobby’s Marina from the port but it was easy enough to find. The guide was awesome and the boys had a really fun time. The total time actually doing the Snuba was 20-25 min. Beware parents, they were served Rum punch after the excursion as the drinking age on the island is 18 and this WAS NOT a cruise ship booked excursion. A++++ for this fun time!

My daughter, 15, was a beginner and and loved that she could go deeper in the water and see the wrecks and more fish than snorkeling. It's more freedom than snorkeling without the commitment of getting dive certified. I was already a fan of snuba. The staff was great and knowledgeable. They were great about calming the scared people on the boat and going over instructions. Were were able to snuba for quite some time and snorkeled when we were done while the other group did their dive. They had rum punch, juice and water. we had a great experience.

We just did Adventure SNUBA today and had the best day of our 8 day cruise. The other review is definitely correct about how well the crew will treat you. I was blown away with how genuinely kind and friendly they are. They made me feel very comfortable during the whole experience.

My 12 year old daughter was nervous and didn't do so well with the snuba, but she still ended up having a great time swimming around taking pictures of all the fish. Each group of four gets a tank of air to do the snuba. After that, you can swim and snorkle on your own.

They did warn everyone that the seas were a little choppy today and might be too much if you get sea sick. We didn't have a problem but a couple people did. To me, it was an example of how they do care about the people in the group and have their best interests in mind.

I would definitely recommend this trip if you are considering it. They take great care of you and the snuba is awesome. We spent a lot of time in the water, looking at tons of fish and other wildlife. The rum punch at the end is a great finish

We are world travelers and certified divers, but we wanted to give Snuba a chance. The set up was easy, the gear was light, and we had plenty of opportunity to explore around without feeling we were on a short leash. We had several beginners on our boat, and most got the hang of it pretty easily. It is an awesome way to experience diving before you spend time and money getting certified. One woman knew right away that this wasn't for her, but her husband is looking forward to getting certified when they get home. The crew was very friendly and knowledgeable. The gear was clean and in good condition. We saw a variety of fish as well as a sunken submarine, helicopter, statues, and more. We really enjoyed this excursion and would definitely try SNUBA again! Bonus....they take a bunch of pictures of you underwater and you can download them for free!!! That is an awesome touch!

This excursion was a great choice. My sense was that the particular excursion we were on is clearly designed--largely--for those new to Snuba, or maybe those who only go once or twice a year. Which was great for our family. While my husband and I have over 375 SCUBA Dives between the two of us, we wanted to give our two children (ages 8 and 9) their first Snuba experience. I am not familiar with how "great" the diving is here (and I have dives in some of the best reefs in the world including Cozumel and Palau)... so my review is of the excursion in general. The communication between the company and myself prior to the trip was very prompt, friendly and professional. Upon arrival at the designated meeting spot, they met us right on time and the experience was seamless. The crew is VERY patient and professional. They were so patient with newbies and nervous people from the boat! Excellent equipment and education on do's and don'ts and how to use the equipment and what its for. They divide the divers so the groups are not huge and my family of four was "one group". They let us stay down for almost 40 minutes ---due to the fact that my husband and I use so little air from the tanks. The Snuba lead joked that he thought we stop breathing! We told him we get that comment all the time on dives, as both of us, just don't use that much air compared to most others. The staff/boat had a nice selection of beverages back on board after the Snuba and snorkel and even had juice pouches for the kids. In terms of what we saw while under the water, we saw nice (if small) diversity of fish it seems--considering the area that we were at. My son spotted a very large barracuda! If you are a diver, or someone who has Snuba'd in some of the most beautiful spots in the world, you may not be thrilled with the site itself, but the business and the excursion in top notch.

We have a 9 year old and 17 year old so its difficult to find things that both kids would enjoy. Though my 9 year old was very nervous about this and didn't want to do it-- when he was done he said he is going to become a professional snuba diver! Both our kids loved it and the staff were great. We had Sheldon (I think that was his name) and he was knowledgable and fun! We could tell that the employees working this excursion love what they do and love to show people how to Snuba. We will definitely be back on our next cruise! Thanks for a great day !

My two daughters aged 8 and 11 really loved it and had a great experience. I would highly recommend. It’s a short boat ride to the dive area was diving was very good and plenty to see. Mich lead our dive and showed us all plenty of the local sites below. The snuba team took all the photos which definitely help relax and just enjoy the dive.

We had an amazing experience doing this excursion from our cruise trip. We travelled with kids (ages 11, 13, 15) who all participated in Snuba and had a great time. The guides were very friendly and helpful. I was nervous if the kids would be able to enjoy this experience, but they were patient and everyone had a great time. Would do again in a second!

This was the most beautiful and serene excursion we have ever been on by far! There’s so much to say. I’ll try to keep it brief. First off, unfortunately the island has been ravaged by hurricane damage. There were few choices for excursions which would not have been significantly altered. I suggest you google what the island looks like now versus what it did. Understand they want to be back to 100% as much as you’d like to see it. This and the fact that we had yet to try SNUBA led us to chose it. You’ll take a small boat out to a reef where it will anchor as you try on flippers and then get your safety briefing. You might even meet Mich who soothingly walks you calmly through the safety procedures. People, this thing is safe enough that there were kids 6 and 7 years old out there doing it. Ok?? There have been ZERO incidents in the decades of business. Trust these lovely people. After your flippers are on and you have had your safety briefing, you’ll be fitted with an individualized weight belt around your waist. Please try to be honest with your weight in the beginning. Yeah I know. It’s uncomfortable but you DO want to sink as close down to the gorgeous fish and cool helicopter covered in coral, sea urchins and lots of varieties of fish and seahorses don’t you?? Of COURSE you do. So fess up! You’ll then be split up into groups with each group having their own guide. You’ll get into the water and hang onto this small white boat which holds your air supply lines. Then, each person is individually tested to make sure their air supply is working and that they remember the hand signals as well as double checking to see if you have enough weight on your weight belt. Again, be honest up front to maximize your time in the water!! From now on, one of two things will happen: You will start sinking into the water and look around to enjoy this magnificent feast for the eyes that is below you. Or...you start sinking and immediately panic and grab hold of the white boat again. My girlfriend sank down and was back around underwater like she had been doing it all her life. I, however, did not. I started to sink and panicked. Mich immediately came to see what was wrong. After a brief conversation, I chose to remove my weight belt and try snorkeling. I found that I could use the respirator just fine as long as I didn’t feel something pulling me under. It’s a control issue. So, then I was able to enjoy the same views as my girlfriend without worrying about swallowing sea water. I DETEST snorkeling! But I LOVE SNUBA!! We absolutely cannot wait to go back and are thinking of changing our cruise in 2020 to somewhere that goes back to St Maarten!! People, this is an experience you need to have. And while you’re doing it, do not bring underwater cameras or special cases for your phones. Look around you, embrace your loved one, think about life and be happy you’re able to experience this reverent moment. We didn’t take anything to capture the photos. Do you wanna know why? Because the entire crew is snapping photos the entire time and for $35, you’ll get every single photo from every single camera they used that day!!! In enormous HD quality that comes in the form of a Zip drive that you download and open. Viola! There was a lady in our group who had three boys under 10 with her. She gave each of them a camera and she had one. This is a huge mistake. HUGE. This is a rare opportunity for you to drown out the world and embrace the earth and ocean where it is merely your thought and silence. Imagine being able to have THAT moment while alive on this earth. Leave technology on the boat and let the team at SNUBA do all of that work for you. Feel free to contact me if you want personal experience of what the flippers make your feet feel like or how does the face mask feel? Ok? Now, after you read this, go book SNUBA for you and your entire family. And make sure you tell everyone in your group or neighborhood back home about this incredible experience so we can all find a moment of true and utter peaceful paradise all thanks to the hard work and safety focused staff at SNUBA

We booked this tour last minute with RCC because there were no more slots open for the excursion of our choice. The boat ride to the snorkel sight is about 10 minutes. You get about 35 min to snuba and then you can snorkel on your own.

We were very excited to see a helicopter and a submarine at the bottom of the ocean floor. You will also see the Sea Trek group down there. Their guides feed the fish so they stay close to the bottom.

I snorkel all the time however this was my first snuba experience. As you go descend further into the water your ears pop making it very uncomfortable (water depth is about 15-20 ft). I popped my ears a couple of times but they kept hurting. This also was causing water to get into my mask. I am sure this was user error.

Overall, the experience was good but suffering ear aches, water in the mask and our group's air lines getting tangled I will stick to snorkeling.
