Description
You will meet your friendly guide in Island Harbour Village at 4:45 pm. Board the see-through bottom boat and get ready for the most magical experience of your life.
Every month, just a few days after full moon, a special phenomenon happens in the waters around Bonaire. Ostracods, also known as seed shrimps, perform their mating ritual by illuminating themselves to attract their partner. This unique behavior is called bioluminescence which is produced by energy released from chemical reactions occurring inside the organism.
While the functions of bioluminescence are not known for all animals, typically bioluminescence is used to warn or evade predators, lure or detect prey, and for communication between members of the same species.
Some say it’s like the sea turns into a sky full of stars. It is an absolutely mesmerizing experience that everybody has to see once in their life. You may enjoy this magical show either by snorkeling or watching it through the glass bottom of the boat while enjoying a drink. The experience of a bioluminescence tour is something you will never forget.
