Description
Explore a whole new world in a truly once in a lifetime experience! We are the only submarine station in the wider region, conveniently located on the Sea Aquarium grounds of Bapor Kibra Curacao. We provide a technologically advanced and safe environment for deep sea research and submarine operations. Since the beginning of our operations in 2010, we have discovered over 50 new marine species. Now you can be part of this unique adventure and discover the world below.
We offer 3 different tours to discover the underwater world with depths up to 1000 feet (300 meters). Our submarine can accommodate up to 4 people plus the pilot. All tours are private except when booking for only 1 person when we reserve the right to pair you with other single explorers.
Each dive starts with a briefing before entering the submarine. With the briefing we explain about the safety procedures, how this activity came about on the island, what you can expect during the dive and more. There is no training involved which makes it a very accessible activity for many. When we're finished with the briefing we proceed to the boarding of the sub. Each trip is accompanied by a pilot that is your guide during this mini expedition.
Explorer Dive: Our Explorers Dive is the most popular program of them all. Your journey starts with an even descent along the sloping drop offs down to an approx. depth of 500 feet (150 meters). On this dive you can experience first-hand the beautiful colors and variety of life at these depths. The bottom time is approx. 1.5 hour. Pictures are made during the time from the briefing till we're back from the dive. These are included in the price and are previewed on a monitor after the dive, during the debriefing. All pictures included, $650,- per person.
Adventure Dive: Ready for an ultimate adventure to the borders of the reef? During this dive you will be going for an amazing dive into the abyss on the sea aquarium reef, reaching almost 1,000ft! Not forgetting the stunning wreck which we’ll be passing by as well and shark feeding (not guaranteed). This dive is perfect for those wanting to experience the depths beyond where sunlight can reach. This is a 2-hour experience. All pictures included, $800,- per person.
Combo Dive: Want the absolute full experience with Substation Curacao? On this dive we reach our max depth of 1,000 feet (300 meters). On top of this we explore the reef for fish species, pass by a couple of wrecks and show you about on-going scientific projects from for example the Smithsonian Institution. The bottom time is approximately 2-hour and all pictures are included (from topside, inside the sub and by a diver). $800,- per person

- Full refund if cruise ship does not dock in time or does not dock at all and tour is missed.
- Full refund if supplier cancels the tour.
- If tour starts with a pick up and you miss it, you are responsible for getting to the tour starting location or catch up with the tour. No refund if you miss the pick up and cannot attend the tour.
- Supplier gets to decide if the weather is good enough to run the tour.

Words can't describe the feeling of journeying 1000 feet underwater - it's like launching into space. 1000% recommend (as long as you're not claustrophobic, of course)!!

Planet Earth is mostly covered by water, most of which is completely unexplored. Few people have ever seen first hand what is below the Ocean surface. 12 men have walked on the moon, yet only three have seen the absolute deepest place in the Ocean right here on earth. Divers can go to around 130ft and see the shallowest spots in this increadable and beautiful world, but this is a chance to see what very, very few people have ever seen.......life in the world below where no diver or even sunlight can reach. It feels as though you've left the earth and at this point you are exploring another world so intense that man cannot exsist outside the protection of this increadable little sub. Guided by a very professional team that oversees the whole adventure from divers, Techs, boat captains, sub pilots and suport staff with an immense amount of knowledge of this undersea world and the hearts to help protect the life and creatures that live in this vastly unexplored world.January 22, 2019

What a fantastic experience! Way beyond what we could have ever expected. I’d highly recommend to do one of the dives as not only is the dive in the sub itself a very unique opportunity for an amazing adventure, to experince the ocean down to 1000ft; but the whole duration is made even more special by the whole team that we interacted with - Barbara as our (excellent) pilot, Jordy, Bruce and Tico - each member was incredibly warm, friendly, welcoming, helpful and knowledgable; answering every question both from a marine perspective and a technical nature of the sub itself.January 16, 2019

One final note for anyone that may be a bit nervous and anxious of diving in a submarine - speak to the guys in advance, because there is a huge amount of attention given to the safety aspect that once you are guided through this, I’m sure you’ll feel more relaxed...it would be a shame to miss the opportunity without trying to understand this first.

We did the 90-minute Explorers Dive with Tico as our submariner. It was an awesome experience. Almost surreal. All the people at Substation Curacao (including Bruce and Jordy) were fantastic, friendly, and fun. Tico did a great job, giving us first an overview of the submersible, then guided us getting in. He was a able to answer al of our questions, and made this a once-in-a-lifetime experience. We had a wonderful time. What was a bit difficult to get used to was how the huge glass bubble in front made the fish and other creatures look quite a bit smaller than their actual sizes. I finally was able to understand the true sizes after spotting a used tire from a boat that made its way to the reef wall.October 31, 2018

I can't recommend this enough. We've been going to Curacao for the last 4 years and were looking for something new. Honestly, this is not something that I would ever seek out, but after reading the stellar reviews, I had to try it. My wife wasn't keen on the idea at all. My son (12 years old) was at least curious. The whole experience was top notch. You're briefed on the Sub and the process beforehand. Tiko was our pilot and was exceptionally knowledgeable of every detail we saw. Stunningly beautiful. That day (Late December) had really strong currents. Tiko handled it like the professional that he is. At times, I almost felt like I was in a Lunar Module hovering over the surface of the Moon. Really great stuff. We got down over 600 feet!! We all had a blast!October 08, 2018

the crew is knowledgeable and patient and awesome.special thanks to Barbara and Tiko for making us feel comfortable,answering all our questions and more,and for the tour and pictures and tshirt. the tour itself took around s 2,5 hours under the sea exploring sponges,corals,fish,wrecks,eel etc etc. well worth the money and very safe and professional.there were checks every 15 minutes on air pressure,oxygen level,depth we were at,and so on.highly recommend this to anyone on the fence. Far less is known about our undersea world than we know about outer space. SubStation Curacao and the Curasub will allow you to experience, in relative comfort, a world that very few of us ever get to see. The staff at Substation Curacao are incredibly professional in what they do. They understand both the nervousness that some may have and really do make the whole experience something that will leave you with a permanent grin.
The interior of the Curasub is compact but we never felt any claustrophobia. The large front window really gives you a great view of what is outside the sub and helped greatly to give us a focus. The padded benches are about the width of picnic benches. It was a little warm to start but quickly cooled down once we were at depth. The exterior lighting allows you to see with tremendous detail what was out there. In the end we went down 557 feet and were never uncomfortable
As a bit of reality, if you are expecting to see a scene out of Finding Nemo this is NOT what you will see. Once you are below probably 200 feet the volume of fish greatly diminishes. What you need to focus on is the diversity of life at depth and realize that there still is a tremendous amount of life in an environment that very few ever experience.
In summary, if you want to have what for many would be considered to be a “bucket list” experience and be able to tell and show others about it (and do it with absolutely no worries) Substation Curacao and the CuraSub is something you must do. It may not be cheap but it is absolutely worth it.

This was the most unique unbelievable experience I’ve ever had. I was nervous at first but after the safety briefing I felt less nervous. Being 1000 feet under the sea was amazing. Super fun way to see tons of sea life at all different levels (100, 300, and 550 ft). Barbara and all the staff at Substation we’re really cool and made the trip a breeze! Seemed pricey at first but it’s a once in a lifetime experience and with all the little extras and the fact they work with researchers on their dives makes it totally worth it! I can't say enough about our wonderful adventure aboard the Curasub. From our arrival at Substation to our departure 3 hours later ... This was a top notch experience. Our maximum depth was 581 feet beneath the ocean ... to a different world of marine life and topography. From the safety briefing and the professional conduct of all the staff, we were at total ease, which only made our adventure more relaxed and enjoyable. What an experience!! Did the combo dive last week. The Substation is a top notch professional, yet very friendly, operation. Just what you want for a 1000 ft dive. Tico, my pilot, was excellent, from his overview of the sub and its operation through pointing out and describing the inhabitants of the various depths passed through, He took lots of great pictures that are given to you after the dive. The sub was comfortable and provided a spectacular view. If you are a diver who gazes into the abyss wondering what it is really like, or a documentary armchair Jacques Cousteau it is worth a look at the Substation web site for more info.
