Description

The Dutch island of Saba is a refreshing change from the cosmopolitan hustle and bustle that St. Maarten and St. Barts provide. Named the “Unspoiled Queen” she is an eco-paradise and quite the getaway for avid divers, hikers and nature enthusiasts.

Take a day trip on the Edge high-speed ferry to this mystical mountain island. Explore its untouched nature, discover its famous underwater world, and hike to the highest peak of the Dutch Kingdom. There is a spectacular view at every turn of the road. You will also find quaint shops in Windwardside that sell local crafts such as the handmade Saba Lace, Saba Spice Liqueur, hand blown glass jewelry and artwork.

Scuba Diving in Saba is world renowned. Many divers will ensure that a day trip to Saba is part of their dive vacation plan. Novice divers are encouraged to dive a few dives in St Maarten before venturing over to Saba, as the wall and pinnacle diving can be considerably deeper. Certification cards are required for all divers.

The boat crossing takes around 90 minutes.

Boat leaves Sint Maarten at 9 AM, check in at 8:15 am

Boat leaves Saba at 3:30 PM, check in at 3:00 pm

    Meh, not amazing.(*)( )( )( )( )

The company who put this together was VERY disorganized. We had issues with this tour and another thru this company. When we arrived we stood in line for about 30 min to be checked in. Then we were given the wrong tickets. Weren’t given boarding passes to get on the boat. And most frustrating of all, the boat left about 45 min late leaving us with very little time on Saba. This may be a given but be prepared to stand in a slow Immigration line quite often. Saba was amazing and I would recommend going there but maybe pick a different company to book a tour through.
    Response from supplier
We apologize for the delays and less than awesome experience with Aqua Mania.
Saba is indeed an enchanting place to visit but quite an adventure to get there.
Since Irma, Immigration requires that we depart the Police Dock instead of our usual place at Simpson Bay Resort. It can be crowded and there can be delays with Immigration needing to check and scan each passport.
I also see that you were cancelled on our Christmas Day Anguilla trip, when we had mechanical troubles with Lambada. This was an unavoidable problem but a disaster for everyone wishing to spend a fun day on Anguilla to celebrate. Please let us know when next you might like to do either of the trips so we can accommodate with a 50% discount.

We didn’t know what to expect, we just randomly booked the trip because we could see the island from our resort on St Maarten. It did NOT disappoint!! We took a tour of the island in an old beat up van that seemed sketchy at first but ended up being a blast! Highly recommend it. The views are unreal

My mom & I enjoyed the day trip to Saba on the Edge Ferry. My mom also had a great experience with the lunch & tour package on Saba! She was able to see some sights, get great information on the island, & eat lunch at the Tropics! The ride was a bit more sporty on the way back to St Maarten but fun! We laughed when we would bump & jump out of seats on occasion.

As for the ferry itself - if you have motion sickness (and I have severe issues) take medicine for sure, do not hope to survive the trip. I have a prescription that works amazing. There were many people sick. Try to sit by the windows and not in the center of the boat. There is no real air in the center.
I sat in the front of the boat on the return, had a blast. The flying fish were just amazing to watch.
    Response from supplier
Thank you so much for this wonderful review! Saba is a spectacular place to visit, so peaceful and with beautiful scenery. We would like to thank you for traveling with our high speed ferry 'Edge'. It can indeed be a bit of an intense ride over to Saba depending on the weather conditions, so your tips regarding motion sickness are very valuable for future customers. If you only purchased a ticket for the ferry, they won't provide you with an excursion or lunch pass at check in, however they should ask you what you will be doing once in Saba, this way we can recommend the Lunch & Tour package, which is a fabulous way to explore Saba. This can be purchased at an additional cost in our office. There are also hiking packages available for those who like to get to the top of Mt Scenery.
We are glad to hear you would return to us when back on St Maarten, we have a large variety of other trips available so I am sure we can organize another great experience for you!

I have to say...I was not impressed with the staff at first..the boat arrived early and we were left to stand in the beating sun while the crew sat in the shade and counted the minutes until we could board. The trip was enjoyable though...except for the poor guy next to us puking his guts up.. Beautiful scenery.

We took a day trip to Saba on the vessel Edge 2 . The seas were a bit choppy and going to Saba in choppy waters is not for the faint of heart, or for those who suffer from motion sickness. The vessel was clean and well kept as well as spacious. The staff were friendly and helpfull. They serve one free drink on both going to and coming back from Saba. I have to commend them on their on time performance although the trip takes about 1 hour and 25 minutes one way. However, I would also inquire about the weather and the condition of the sea prior to boarding and on my next trip would rather fly into Saba.

Edge to Saba was one of the highlights of my trip to Sint Maarten. This boat trip offers a unique and accessible way to visit something otherwise pretty off the beaten path. The boat ride was efficient and comfortable and left and returned on time. I would have liked a little engagement about the island or maybe some other amenities for the $100 price, but it was still worth it to me. Touring around Saba is a very enjoyable experience and I'm so glad I chose to do this!

Caught the Edge ferry from St Maarten's Simpson Bay to Saba island and it was fast, efficient and smooth experience. Well priced too. I had the option of day the day tour but fancied staying on the island one night so it was just a single journey by boat (I would be heading on to St Eustatius after). Excellent service

I've booked this trip to Saba before and it was absolutely awesome. However, my review is based solely on experience due to weather which they have no control over so I can't fault them entirely. I took the Edge to Saba and guided hike package. Although we recieved notice that the ride could be bumpy on the way to Saba, I wasn't expecting massive waves smashing into the vessel. However, the high speed Catamaran "The Edge" is safe, strong, and sturdy to take on the rough seas. Once on Saba, the weather was not cooperating with us for the hike. Our guide was quite a delight and extremely knowledgeable. Unfortunately down pouring rain fell on us throughout the hike. The trail was very slippery and intense. It's even more treacherous walking down. My advice is that don't wear sneakers as it can still be very slippery. Instead wear all terrain hiking boots, it's a major difference for this kind of experience. We weren't able to climb up to Mt Scenery as we wouldn't be able to see the beautiful view due to the intense mist and clouds. Upon walking back to town, each local we bumped into stated that returning to St Maarten from Saba on the Edge was even worse than arriving from St Maarten. The waves and swells were even bigger than before and passengers were getting sea sick including myself. There must have been 8-10 passengers vomiting in provided barf bags including myself. This was the first time I ever experienced sea sickness and I've grew up on the ocean and have taken hundreds of boat rides. If planning to visit Saba, choose your day carefully and monitoring the weather. Also, ask around for status on sea conditions. I think Aqua Mania should limit rides to Saba during times of rough seas. Maybe it's practical or maybe it's not, but this is just my experience. The guide was outstanding and the Edge crew was great! But I wasn't too happy with the circumstances.
    Response from supplier
Thank you for your review and great feedback!
The Edge ferry to Saba is a public ferry that is often used by locals to travel between the islands. Therefore it also runs in less favorable weather conditions.
We fully understand when people prefer to reschedule their trip due to bad weather, as obviously your overall experience would have been far more pleasant if it had not rained.
This may not have been possible due to your remaining itinerary.
On a normal day sneakers would have been suitable footwear for the hike. But you are right in saying that it does get slippery with heavy rain.
We are very pleased that you enjoyed the guide and the information he provided you with about Saba. Hopefully we can welcome you back on our next visit to St. Maarten.
If you are looking to do some more island hopping we can definitely recommend the months May through July, as the sea conditions tend to be more favorable.

We took the Edge ll home from Saba. It was such a different experience than the Dawn ll. The crew was much more professional and seemed more knowledgeable. They handled the passengers with care, gave clear instructions, and left on time. We enjoyed our trip back to St. Martin on the Edge rather than the Dawn ll to Saba.

We also took the edge to Saba. We enjoyed Saba and walked up the Mountain Scenery trail with a guide. That was a very tough walk for us and I am glad we had a guide. The boat ride was very rough which was kind of fun for me, but if you are prone to seasickness you may not enjoy it. You need a walking stick to walk down the trail and our guide provided them. I am in fairly good shape and hike on a regular basis, were very strenuous. Bring a camera and good walking shoes and a spirit of adventure!

Booked for the edge ll trip to Saba for a dive trip. It was a good trip. The ocean was a bit rough so I thought it wouldn't be great.... It did get hot in the cabin and there isn't outside seating really. You can open the windows, however with the rough ocean the waves would cone through. Otherwise it was a good trip. The crew is helpful and want to make sure you have a good ferry over and back. We shall book again when we return!!! Thanks guys!

we took the Edge high speed ferry to Saba for a guided hike up Mount Scenery, we were provided a nice lunch to take on the hike at the trail shop, and our guide James was terrific. It had really rained hard there the day prior, so it was very slippery, but well worth the effort!

We did the day trip to saba and st barths. Both trips were rough crossings but felt safe the whole time and enjoyed the adventure however some people were sick. The crew and captain on the edge ll were great. The trips are pricey but worth it to see the other islands.

My wife and I took the Edge II to and from Saba last week, and we stayed on the island for 5 days. On the trip out, the waters were a little choppy, but the boat handled it well. 5 days later on the way back, it was calmer and the trip was nice and smooth.

The crew was very helpful and nice, and made the trip pleasant. Thanks for a great ride!

I took the Edge to Saba from Sint Maarten and loved every minute of it. Being on the open water is very exhilarating. The Captain and Crew were excellent. They were mindful of safety when people were entering and leaving the vessel; they were attentive during the voyage; and they even stopped to direct everyone's attention to a pod of dolphins. Great trip!

Decided on Monday to take the Edge ferry on Wednesday. We weren't sure what to expect, having never been on a trip like this before. Took a motion sickness pill as a precaution, especially after all the rum the night before. The trip to Saba was relatively smooth. Went diving enjoyed lunch and returned to St. Martin by 5 p.m. The return trip had more waves. Overall a great day trip. The staff was friendly and helpful.
