Short stay in Curacao: Ultimate 1-day itinerary

The best 1-day travel itinerary for Curaçao

If you only have one day to explore Curaçao, you can rent a car and make a road trip around the island or stay around Willemstad and get a taste of the Little Europe of the Caribbean at the cultural center of the island. Either way, you will be taken aback by what this tiny island has to offer. Hiring a taxi is rather expensive, which is why we recommend renting your own vehicle instead or signing up for a guided sightseeing tour of Curacao.

If you opt for a trip around the island...

Shete Boka National Park

Shete Boka National Park hosts several notable must-see natural attractions. In only one stop, you can visit Boka Tabla Cave - a cave that starts on land but ends in the sea -, Supladó Natural Jacuzzi and Boka Wandomi - a natural bridge. Most sights can be easily accessed with a short hike from the respective parking area. Make sure to wear some good shoes as the terrain is rather rugged. Keep your eyes open for iguanas and other wildlife along the trails!

Kenepa Beach

For great snorkeling and spectacular views, hit Kenapa Beach which is one of the most beautiful beaches on the island. It consists of two beaches: Kenepa Grandi (bigger beach) and Kenepa Chiki (smaller beach). Chiki is a great spot for snorkeling, while Grandi is known for its striking views - this is where you’ll take those Instagram photos.

Playa Lagun

This narrow cove enclosed by rock cliffs is the best snorkeling spot on the island. It’s often visited by green sea turtles. However, you’re most likely to spot them in the morning. You can spot all source of marine life here: green moray eels, crevices, snappers, wrasse, parrot fish and butterfly fish. There are several restaurants around, should you get hungry before you continue your journey around the island.

Flamingo Sanctuary

The famous Flamingo Sanctuary is located in a small fishing village on the west coast of Curaçao called Sint Willibrordus. The town itself is also worth a visit with its Williwood sign and well-known St. Willibrordus Church, but the main attraction is undoubtedly the Flamingo Sanctuary. Spot these magnificent birds in their natural habitat in the shallow waters of a salt lake surrounded by rolling hills and unique cacti.

If you’d rather stay around Willemstad...

Historic center of Willemstad

The two historic quarters, Punda and Otrabanda, is home to some many attractions. Exploring them all would take up a whole day. However, if you’re short on time, keep your eye out for the main sights like Queen Emma Pontoon Bridge - the bridge connecting the two districts -, Groot Davelaar and other examples of colonial architecture and the Old Market. Stroll around the quaint little alleys and take in the unique European-like atmosphere of Willemstad. You can also pay a visit to the Curacao Liqueur Museum where the famous Blue Curacao is made.
