Description
If you ever dreamed of discovering the underwater world, the Discover Scuba Dive is your perfect chance to get a first hand experience on this magical outdoor activity.
The first part of your PADI Discover Scuba Diving course is all about equipment: learn what gear you need to scuba dive, and how to use it to move around under water. The pool session will take place at the Hilton hotel. It is a controlled, closed-water chance to practice your skills at the dive center, and to take your first breaths underwater.
Next, we will head for the sea and explore the Pedernales wreck 25 ft (8 meters) deep. You will dive alongside your PADI-certified instructor, and start exploring the vivid colors and wildlife of the Caribbean's marine world. While Discover Scuba Diving is not a scuba certification course, it’s the perfect chance to see if scuba diving is a good fit for you, and could be the very first step in a lifetime of scuba diving around the world.
All divers need to pass by our office to purchase a book ($5 USD), learn it and be able to answer questions before the pool session begins. Divers also need to fill in paperwork and medical questions.

We had used Aruba Watersports in the past for a Discover Scuba course for our daughter on which my husband and I accompanied her on the dive on the Pedernales.July 07, 2018
We decided to use them again when it came timefor our daughter's PADI Open Water Certification. This was due to various reasons. We were staying at the Radisson so it was close by, a few hundred steps depending where you were. The cost was less than other operators, and being a small outfit, we knew chances were good that our daughter would have a lot of close supervision.
Actually, she ended up being a class of one. This made the classes private, and personalized and centered on her. Certification is typically done in 3 or 4 days, but since we were staying at the Radisson for 12 nights, our daughter had the leisure of doing half days and not being rushed, especially with her reading assignments. It also enabled us to pick days that fit our schedule best.
AWS lacks a pool so all the skills- hovering in place, flooding the mask, taking the mask off and swimming without it and then putting it back on, removing the regulator, etc.- are done in shallow open water. We did not feel it was an issue since the instructor was of course always right there with her and in the long run we felt it provided her with more confidence. She was even able to go on an actual dive at the Pedernales after review of her first set of skills.
Nick, the instructor, was patient and covered all areas in depth and even made her re-do areas he found she struggled with. She certainly had to work for her certification; she did not have the card just handed to her. We all feel that this was an excellent base for future diving education.
Once the certification was complete, my husband and daughter used AWS for two dives. The service, due to small inflatable boats they use, get you to the dive sites quickly. Dive groups are no more than 4 people (including the instructor.) The dives are personalized and typically there are not set sites and the group is able to decide.
