Description
The tour starts with a pick up at your accommodation around 8:30 am but pick up time might be adjusted to meet cruise ship schedule. We will always contact you about the exact pick up time after reservation. Your friendly local guide will drive you to the famous Tugboat Beach which is not too easy to find if you don't know your way around the Curacao.
First we will snorkel at an impressive drop-off with beautiful coral formations where you can lie still in calm waters and enjoy the view. This area is home to many species of fish and other sea creatures.
We will then continue to the shipwreck called Tugboat The 30 feet (9 meters), still complete wreck sits upright in 17 feet (5 meters) of water. After three decades beneath the waves, the skeletal hull is now encrusted with corals. You will find many tropical fish all amenable to being photographed. Due to shallow water and the easy conditions, the Tugboat shipwreck is among the top 10 snorkeling and diving sites on the island!
After drying off and rehydrating with water, you will head towards Fort Beekenburg, a defensive building built to protect Caracasbaai from pirates and enemy nations. The trail offers a good view of Barbara Beach across the expansive harbor of Spanish water.
At the end of the tour, you will be returned to your hotel or cruise ship terminal.

We found our favorite little snorkel beach in Curacao! We easily met Bernice and one more couple from a different ship right outside the port entry. We rode in the back of an open truck with seats and some shade and the weather was perfect. As we left the port and town area, Bernice was giving us information on the island and things that we passed en route to our first snorkel experience. The first beach stop seemed to be for locals only - no big crowds! The reef area was the clearest water ever with tons of fish, coral, etc. Bernice was with us to point out things but we had lots of freedom. The tugboat area was a little more crowded since tourists were able to also get there by boat and kayak but it was still a good experience. Saw my first group of cuddlefish. Nice excursion - I would definitely recommend this tour and we loved Bernice who has a great sense of humor!February 12, 2019

I was only one from cruise ship, guide picked me up in brand new Dodge van OUTSIDE main port gate, not at sigh that said internet booked tour meet here! !5 or 20 minute drive through town and across big high bridge to fancy big resort to pick up a couple and a father and daughter neither whom had ever snorkeled before. First stop was at a very public beach with large crowds , kids and cook outs . Guide gave us our gear and stayed with the van for security. We self guided and looked after never evers. Beach was covered with sharp rocks and water was full of trash near shore. Vis better after we got out a ways. Old pier pilings gathered lots of small fish and only a little plastic trash. Second site was the tug boat. Again guide stayed with van for security, walked through old , trashy scuba dive operation, $2 to pee....beach , small, narrow, and full of sharp rocks. Very large Drill Ship tied to dock for year and a half, we had to swim out and under mooring lines for ship and go another 75-100 yards to sunken old tug. Out beyond tug was deep shelf drop off and closer to shore was shallow , but many rocks, no beach. Many small fish around tug, Vis was decent. Guide drove us around , showed us resort and high bluff with nice sea views. As windy as Curacao is year round we were told, our group was glad we didn't go on boat. We saw several dive boats and they were really pitching Guide returned me to port after dropping others at resort. Very fair price given cost of new van with 40% tariff import duty and fuel cost .January 30, 2019

Reading through your feedback I think you went on tour with us during the weekend. Mostly Saturdays and Sundays locals enjoy the Caracasbaai area to swim and have BBQs.
The 2 snorkel stops that we visit are indeed mainly for snorkeling, the beautiful beaches and bays that Curacao is well- known for are rather located towards the West side of the island. Maybe next time when you come back to the island we will be able to show you the other part of the island.
Just recently we worked out a deal with the owner of the dive center to use his bathroom. This way no additional fees need to be covered.

Our guide, Bernice, made this excursion so fun! We were with a small group and Bernice was telling us all about the island as we were driving. I have never snorkeled before, but she held my hand through it all and made sure I was comfortable. She even took our GoPro to take pictures of the reef for us! We got to see two different sites, but because the water was pretty rough, we got a tour of some of the island as well. Bernice was so knowledgeable and funny. We would do another excursion with her in a heartbeat!!January 23, 2019

Lovely driver who was just that --- a driver to two "beaches" that we snorkeled in. The first had dirty water and was crowded with local birthday parties, grilling etc. Once you got past all that it was beautiful fish but it was kind of gross wading through the plastic plates and garbage on the sand and in the shallow water. The second spot was where the tugboat is and to no one's fault it's next to the an oil rig that has been there for 1.5 years. The area might have been nice before it was there but now it's not very scenic to snorkel next to a rig. Wished that this tour would pick more scenic places to snorkel via car unless that's just not available on this island? The driver was very kind and informative but he didn't snorkel with us and didn't have much information about the fish but a lot of info about the island...January 23, 2019

Thanks to Bernice, we had a great experience on this tour and actually got much more than we expected. We had great snorkeling at two sites with Bernice as our guide, pointing out marine life and taking an active part in snorkeling with us. After that we had a mini tour of the island (which we didn’t really expect), and were able to see a few other attractions including Fort Nassau and the distillery at Landhuis Chobolobo (Curacao Liqueur). Bernice was absolutely amazing. She loves her island and her job. She is a native local who gave us not only a great snorkeling adventure at various locations but also educated us on curacao. We would absolutely suggest this tour to anyone going to Curacao. We would do this tour again. November 18, 2018

We were greeted just just outside the port and escorted to our tour guide, Ryan. To our surprise, my husband and myself were the only ones on the tour. Ryan shared that he owns a kayaking tour company and was helping Curacao Actief out. Initially, this made me nervous, but turns out this was the best thing ever! Ryan's family settled in Curacao in the 1700's and he is so steeped in the history and culture of the island. Throughout our time with Ryan, we learned what an advocate and champion for Curacao he is. We are so incredibly thankful that our tour wasn't cancelled due to lack of participants. Our snorkeling was awesome! I was so surprised how many beautiful fish I was able to see off the shore in Caracas Bay. We got to The Tugboat at a perfect time because not a lot of other snorkel groups had arrived yet. The underwater world is so beautiful and visibility was great! Then we were taken to a fort, which my husband enjoyed exploring. We asked Ryan to take us to somewhere that locals eat for lunch. We ended up at an open air market busy with locals. We has an excellent fresh caught Red Snapper lunch that was so inexpensive. Ryan gave us so much information about the island and drove us around places that we would have never have seen if not for him. I can't say enough positive things about how easy it was to communicate and book with Curacao Actief prior to our cruise and the wonderful day we had as a result!!November 03, 2018

Highly recommend this excursion! Bernice was the best!! She loves her island and is very excited to share it with visitors. The water was crystal clear right from the shore. Howard was an excellent guide who was very knowledgeable about the island and snorkeling! Takes you to a couple scenic spots for pictures and tells you a bit about the history of the island. Also very accommodating of snorkelers of all levels, he took the time to show the people in our group who had never snorkeled before the ropes while allowing us who had been before to go on ahead and begin. Be sure to bring a go pro if you have one as Howard will dive down into the tugboat and get you some great shots that most people probably wouldn't be able to get otherwise.October 13, 2018

The booking was easy and convenient. The service throughout the experience was impeccable. We booked this trip and when we arrived, we found out that we were the only guests with Bernice. She was AMAZING. She helped take pictures for us and paid close attention to our safety and enjoyment of the experience. Not only that, but she taught us a bunch of history regarding Curacao. Our guide was friendly, funny, and informative. We learned a lot about the island and had a great time snorkeling. There were tons of fish around the tug boat and the guide pointed out a few interesting ones that we may have missed on our own. I was on a Royal Caribbean ship when my excursion was cancelled at 11am the day before docking in Curacao. I had to scramble to find something and spent several hours online looking. Upon recommendation from Curiuos2Dive, I contacted this company. They were fantastic! The office staff responded rapidly to my inquiry of availability and offered to help me with booking. I emailed with a few questions and the staff responded quickly and thoroughly, including follow-up answers to questions I hadn't even asked. I got directions for where to go and confirmation of booking/payment.August 23, 2018
The next morning, I followed the directions to the meeting spot outside security. The person there had my name on her list, even though I was last minute. She said we were going with Bernice; my first thought was "oh - ok, there were good reviews on TripAdvisor about her...i should be ok." Well boy was I wrong - not only was I ok, I was GREAT! Bernice was AMAZING!!!!!!!!
There were four of us in the van with Bernice and another large family in "big red" with Larry. We left the port and traveled to the tugboat to snorkel. Bernice narrated our whole drive out there, telling us all about Curacao and her life there as well as answering all our questions. When we got to the tugboat, Bernice helped outfit us with our gear. She said something about us all being able to swim; I commented that I can swim but not great. She immediately told me to stay with her and that I should always have her in sight. I also mentioned in conversation that I teach environmental science and do a unit on corals, how i was looking forward to seeing the reef to be able to talk about in class and hopefully get some good pictures. Bernice said she can free dive up to 30feet and that if I wanted closeup pictures of something to let her know and she would dive for them. I said if she saw something she thought I would like to take the camera. Well Bernice did take it, and proceeded to take tons of amazing closeup pictures for me and to point out all the different things so I would know what I was seeing. I was so impressed by her abilities and her generosity. At the second reef, Bernice spotted a fish that she said she doesn't see often and tried to get a picture for me even though I told her my camera had just died.
After the amazing snorkeling, Bernice and Larry took us to Fort Nassau to see the view. Then Bernice took us on a drive around Williamstaad to see both sides of the city. She joked the whole time about all she had to do was her laundry so let's stay out and have fun!
On a side note, Larry was great with us too. There was a woman in the other family in "big red" who literally couldn't swim. At the tugboat, Larry stayed attached to her, literally, the entire time she was in the water. He held her arm and guided her around the tug; he was compassionate and made sure she enjoyed her experience. He helped my ungraceful self in and out of the water too, singing "lean on me".
I'm not one to hug people, I like my personal space. When she dropped us off at port, Bernice said the only thing she dislikes about her job is that by the time you are getting to know someone, it's time to drop them back at their ship. She said we weren't allowed to cry when we left her. She hugged each of us and I willingly hugged her back (huge for me!).
I've gone on guided snorkeling tours before but this one stands out far above the others! Locations can be beautiful, as Curacao is....but the guides make the difference. Curacao Actief has a gem in Bernice. I told my husband that the next time we come back to Curacao (and we will), I want to bring my daughter, and hire Bernice for the day to go around the island.

We ended up on a private tour as no one else signed up. We had a great time at the first reef and were impressed it was so big given that it was fairly shallow. It was also a great opportunity to test our gear. The tugboat was the best part of our trip. There were tons of different fish around and we even saw about 10 squid that we would not have spotted except for our guide. He did a great job of looking after us and pointing out the excellent fish around us including a Scorpionfish. We had a great time and we would definitely go again.July 24, 2018

We were met at our resort by George who took us on a wonderful snorkeling experience. We entered the water from the shore which was a little rocky. Once we got past that, the view of different species of fish, coral and underwater beauty was amazing! George was very knowledgeable and dove down deep to get great pictures for us. He was very accommodating and adapted the tour to our specific interests.June 03, 2018

Stopped in Curacao while on a cruise and had the best day on land in the entire 10 day cruise trip. Bernese picked us up at the ship and we got very lucky - all the other people that had signed up for the day did not show up so the three of us got a private tour! She gave us a history drive tour of the island and then took us to several sites to snorkel. The day was spectacular with the highlight being Bernese herself. She was fun, funny, smart and very engaging! I would go to Curacao just to spend the day with her again.March 23, 2018

Four years ago we took the "Tugboat and Reef Snorkel" in Curacao with them and had enjoyed it immensely. When we were coming back this year I tried to get the same guide that we had had in 2014. For some reason we were unable, but this time we got Harold. Now, our previous guide was really good, but Harold would be hard to beat. Also this time we got a tour of Fort Beekenburg, which we didn't previously.March 21, 2018
We piled into the back of a small pickup truck fitted with seats and a canopy. We took cover from a surprise rain storm before continuing on. First stop was a reef where you just walk in the water. And the coral was active and alive and colorful, as were the fish. After spending maybe 30-45 minutes at that location we drove a little farther to the location where the tugboat wreck was.
The tugboat wreck is located maybe 100 yards off shore and is fun to snorkel around. Just past the wreck is a steep dropoff where i tried a little free diving. Harold had given me some pointers about how to actually do some [limited] free diving.
After having plenty of time to snorkel around the tugboat and dropoff, we got back into the pickup and drove a few hundred yards to Fort Beekenburg. The fort is a small ruin that is rather well-maintained. I love old forts, and this one, although quite small, was interesting.
For this trip, we had been joined with other friends, and all of us enjoyed it. Highly recommend!

This trip was great! George and Howard were so friendly and funny! They picked us up and dropped us off at the hotel at no cost (which we appreciate because taxis are not cheap). They took us to two spots and we saw some great fish and marine life. They were great people and had a great time with them!March 19, 2018

This tour was very professionally run. We had 20 participants, requiring 2 vans. There were two guides for every 10 participants and they were outstanding, particularly helpful to the couple of guests who had mobility issues and needed assistance. Berenice, as others have said, is friendly, knowledgeable and hugely entertaining. Our other guide, Andrew, was so patient with those needing individual attention. Our driver's name was Marlon. The excursion included two snorkel stops, one at Tugboat Beach and one at another beach nearby. Both sites were an easy swim from shore and offered amazing coral and an abundance of aquatic creatures. My research had indicated that Curacao was likely the best snorkeling port on our cruise itinerary, but we were still amazed at just how good it was. Berenice indicated Tugboat Beach was the most crowded she'd EVER seen it. Fins in the face can be a little frustrating, but it was still a GREAT experience. The second stop was perhaps even more incredible than the tugboat and we had it all to ourselves! After the second snorkeling stop, we were supposed to go to Fort Beekenberg, which is located between the two beaches. We had some people with mobility issues on our tour, and the fort involves a lot of steps. The itinerary was changed on the fly and we instead visited the liquor factory, where we could participate in a free tasting and/or tour. We did stop at another fort, but it had been converted to a mall or restaurant or some such, so we didn't go inside. Not sure that stop was really worthwhile.
I highly recommend this tour and company.

Bernice indeed mentioned to me after the tour that on this specific day the Tugboat was very crowded. We are aware that the Tugboat is a popular stop but that day as Bernice said was the most crowded she ever seen it.
