We did four excursions while we were in Punta Cana for our honeymoon: Saona Island, Reef Explorer, Santo Domingo Tour, and Scape Park. Based on my research before we left, I knew I wanted to do these four excursions, but Angel from Amstar (located at Secrets Cap Cana) gave us more insight into each one, which was very helpful!

We had an early start and a long bus ride to the capital city (about 2 ½ hours), but it didn’t feel long because our tour guide, Munchie, did a great job explaining the country’s culture and history. Once we got there, the day was jam packed with history and fantastic monuments—something we really enjoyed! If you are a history buff, this is a must do! Visiting the church, which is nearly 500 years old, was an unforgettable experience.

Tip: It was pretty hot when we were there, so I wore shorts and a t-shirt. When we got to the church, they let people borrow cover-ups if needed.

Had a great day out...dont get me wrong it's a 2 hour plus ride in by coach and for the first hour we where not kept informed on what was going on.! Picking other guests from all over the place, but come on guys let your guests know? Munchie was our guide he was funny and pretty ok! But like always the DR is all about flippin sales and Tips, but seeing the capital was good, some people live in some terrible places in this world, sad to see some things, the capital is packed with people one of the busiest mental citys I've visited! Theres no law in regards to the cars and bikes on the road... crazy ! But all in all for the price it was good! Nice lunch as well

Great tour that shows what San Domingo has to offer. The driver and guide were prompt for pick up which was super early. We then had a bit of waiting about while other people joined the bus... it would have been good to know what was happening once we got on the bus.. the guide didnt really speak to us until the bus was full.. the rest of the day was great. The highlights for me included the 4d cinema and lunch.. the restaurant setting is lovely and the food was sooo good.

One thing to note which the tour company doesn't have much control over is the sellers at the monuments they can be a bit overwhelming especially when following to the bus.

I think our tour operator mislead us on this one we were expecting a 12hr day out. It nice to see some of the history of then island. We had a nice buffet lunch with dancers to entertain you. Personally i dont think this is one for the young or the old as its a long hot day. Shopping was only in gift shops, bit,of a let down tbh. And the stop at chocolate shop on the way home was a waste of time. History side was great but the overall a bit of a let down.

Old Santo Domingo is beautiful and full of a rich and significant history. It’s a shame that Runners has turned this experience into more of an organized shopping and entertainment tour. Many of the historical comments were inaccurate and sheer crowd-pleasing propaganda. The history of the people of Santo Domingo deserves to be treated with more respect. In addition we wasted one hour at a souvenir shop in old Santo Domingo that nobody had asked for, after a good 20 min sermon by the tour guide on the bus about not buying in the street but in that shop. Same with chocolate factory stop, where we wasted another 30 min after already spending another 45 min there in the morning. All in all and in retrospect you are better served (and respected) jumping on a bus and contracting a local accredited history guide in old Santo Domingo. You won’t be treated as a commodity to make a commission on...

The trip overall was great! The cathedral was beautiful, it's a must see if you like historic sites. Our guide Dario was very informative. The museum was an experience you wont forget. You get a summary of the city's history in a 4D mini theater with moving seats, water splashes and wind. Least favorite part, was the chocolate factory tour but that was my personal preference (due to the fact I'm not a big chocolate lover). Credit to our driver Enrique who made sure we got there safe and back. Oh and by the way hands down the lunch was the best Dominican food I've had since I've been here!

Enjoyed the trip with Dario & Enrique as our guide. The church was beautiful and it was fun listening to the history of the cities.
The 4D theater experience was a delight, would recommend for people with kids, or without.
There wasn't much shopping to be done and it was all tourist shops, so don't expect a good deal unless perhaps you're much better at bargaining than I am.
Lovely way to spend the day, but unless you're a history buff, it's not a must-see.

He also advises you of the do's and don't. 100% in safe hands. You are provided with water all day and given a lovely lunch at a beautiful restaurant. Definitely given 5 star treatment. Also a shout out to the driver Enrique. Both men very polite. Will be using this company again for future tours. Thank you very much family.

Surprisingly this was a very good tour. The information provided (in 3 different languages -- English, Spanish, & French) managed to stay consistent and very educational. The places we visited were never crowded and the time spent was perfect. Lunch provided was not shabby at all, the ambiance of the restaurant truly put you in the spirit of Santo Domingo. I did this tour with my 2 teenage sons who both felt it was a worthwhile excursion. Lastly, our tour guide Dario and bus driver Enrique were awesome. They kept us safe, organized and provided a fun filled day.

We really regret taking this excursion. We had English/Spanish group and guide constantly forgot to switch back from spanish to English. We felt excluded and didn’t get a lot of the information. Moreover, beggars on the streets were very annoying and sometimes rude and pushy.
There is not much to see in Santo Domingo. City is extremely neglected and dirty, architecture is mediocre.
I would not recommend this tour.
