Jarabacoa, the City of Eternal Spring, is nestled in the Central Mountain Range at the feet of Pico Duerte, the highest point of the Dominican Republic and all the Caribbean. Jarabacoa is an eco-tourism hub with a variety of accommodations from riverside ranches and eco-lodges to luxury vacation villas. It is easily accessed via modern highways from Santo Domingo or Santiago. Jarabacoa is the base of adventure seekers as it offers a wide range of outdoor activities such as hiking El Mogote through thick pine forest, mountain biking to the many waterfalls of the region, horseback riding at Rancho Baiguate or just simply exploring rural life.
But the list of things to do in Jarabacoa does not stop here. Extreme sports enthusiasts will find themselves debating between river rafting in the Yaque del Norte River, canyoning at Salto de Baiguate or paragliding over the Jarabacoa valley. At the end of the day, locals and visitors alike get together at the small bars around main square and share stories of their adventures. Jarabacoa has remained one of the hidden gems of the Dominican Republic which offers the complete opposite of a clichéd Caribbean vacation.
