Horseback Riding Tour in the Mountains

We had a great time riding horses at horse play. The guys were awesome zip lining was very much fun and the lunch was excellent. We highly recommend horse play for a great adventure. Thanks Kathy.

Wow just wow I had the time of my life. Jose is just too funny he had jokes since he picked us up till he dropped us off. His kids were too cute and enjoyed speaking with them and laughing with them. The zip lining was great to 5 different levels what a rush :) The staff amazing ,helpful, and super nice. They made me my sister and friend feel very welcome . Plus they let me hear my speaker on the whole horse ride. the cigar shop was great everyone nice there too . We enjoyed ourselves. Your horses were very well behaved which was a little bit of a concern for my husband because he is such a large man and hoped the horse didn't mind caring him. Giving my husband the option of taking the truck back at the half way point was a bonus as he had had enough horse riding by that point. He greatly appreciated the offer to do so. I, on the other hand, was happy to have the opportunity to ride the other half of the ride on horseback with just the guide. The others in our group went on to do the zip line. I had owned my own horses for 20 years and did some barrel racing in my younger days. The guide allowed me to canter a little bit on the way back which satisfied my need for a little speed. This is a great way to see an actual Dominican town. On the drive in, we went through a small town and enjoyed having the chance to be outside the tourist zone. Our first stop was at a cigar shop, where we rolled our own cigars and were allowed to keep them.

Next, we went across the road to the horses. Helmets were provided. We signed up for the half day horse back riding and did NOT sign up for the additional zip lining. So, the first part of the trail, we were with a large group. This ride was just ok. You don't really ride through a river, more like walk through a stream. There was an opportunity to canter the horses, but it's such a large group that we didn't get to gallop. The first half left something to be desired, and only lasted about 40 min.

Then, we dismounted at the ranch, where the group (everyone but us) who had elected to zip line had a dominican lunch. Our tour did not include lunch, so we just sat at a nearby table while everyone else ate. Honestly, this was fine, we didn't expect to eat, and we weren't hungry. It annoyed us, however, that we had this dead time of about 30 min. We were introduced to our guide for the second half, who then made himself a plate and ate. We just wanted to get back on the horses! I think the tour could be much improved for those that elect to only ride if we didn't have to dismount and merely left the group behind and continued on.

Eventually we did get back on the horses. The second half was much more enjoyable. We went into the mountains and even saw a local school. Because it was just the two of us and a guide, we were able to do a lot more and we did actually get a chance to gallop. We did see the zip lining areas as we rode out and weren't terribly impressed. If you've zip lined before, I would probably skip it. But, again, we didn't actually zip line.

All in all, a good trip. "Half day" is probably an overstatement; in all I imagine we rode for a little less than 2 hours. We had a great time overall.

We chose this excursion as we felt it was designed with both first time riders and experienced riders in mind. The overall experience was that of a simple trail ride where all the horses simply followed the lead horse.

The scenery was nice, but you were simply led along a trail that was fenced in both sides for most of the way. The river portion was a very short portion of the ride and was more or less a shallow creek.

The horses used were small, and being a larger man, I was concerned with their well being. However it may just have been a breed I am unaccustomed to as I come from Canadian Ranch Country where the horses are sturdy.

The experience was ok as a leisurely ride to see some country side, but I wouldn’t recommend it for experienced riders.

Took this trip with my daughter and 7 year old grandson. I am 69, but rode horses quite a bit as a kid. Getting a chance to gallop on a horse again, and with my daughter, was an awesome and special experience. This was a first horseback ride for my 7 year old grandson and he was a little overwhelmed. However, one of the staff stayed with him the entire ride and led his horse so he felt very safe.

We got to our resort (Royalton Bavaro) Thursday afternoon, 6/7. Decided we would like to try a couple of excursions. My girlfriend wanted to go horseback riding, a chance to see more of the island away from the resort. She had looked up different
options & we decided to try Horseplay. (By the way, I had never been around or on a horse before). Horseplay was a great option & choice, made me feel very comfortable.. We were able to schedule for Saturday morning pick up. Jose & the truck were on time & he was very friendly & helpful. Proceeded to pick up several other folks on the way to either ride horses or to zipline.

Our first stop was at a small cigar rolling factory. Small place, very nice people, you get to see how cigars are rolled & to do it yourself. Next up, the horses were there waiting for us. All of the horses were pretty gentle. Knowing that I had never ridden
before, Jose picked one that I felt very comfortable with. We rode through the countryside and met up with the folks who were ziplining. I was able to buy a cold
beer (it was a hot day), relax & have some fried plantains. Jose showed us how cocoa
is made, got to taste it as well and a taste of Mama Juana. Rode the horses a bit more and then truck back to the resort. Great opportunity to meet some very nice Dominican
folks (Jose & his crew were fantastic), great opportunity to see more of the countryside & for me.......a first.....a horseback ride. We would definitely recommend Horseplay & would do it again. One tip, I wore shorts, while not a big deal, long pants would probably be better.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming! We had so much fun with the horses and would definitely go back again! There was also amazing tasty dominican food offered at an additional price - but it is vey worth the price

This was the third time I’ve returned to this attraction. This time I went with a few couples for a trail ride, zip line, cigar rolling, lunch, and a cocoa grinding demonstration with HorsePlay and had a fantastic time as always! One of my favourite parts was just on the drive, we learned so much about the Dominican culture. Very fun, educational, and beautiful. They are always so accommodating and gave options for beginner and more advanced riders during the trail ride. Horses were great and had no problems. Food was fantastic as well! I can’t wait to go back again!
