Description

The fun starts as soon as you get picked up from your resort in Bavaro, Punta Cana or the Cap Cana cruise ship terminal between 7:45 and 9:15 am (see below for exact pick up time) Our entertaining guides will have you laughing as they tell you all about the incredible countryside you are travelling through. Learn about the culture, schools, entertainment and life in general from an insiders point of view.

Then it's time to introduce you to our fantastic Higueyano horses. After a brief history of the breed and some riding instructions we will get you settled on your horse to begin your journey.

Previous horseback riding experience is not necessary, the combination of our great horses and guides ensures your first time will be an easy and safe experience. We ride out through a small village and then down a beautiful mountain path where we make our way to a flat meadow. Here our more adventurous riders have the opportunity to gallop across the countryside while the others meander along a shorter route at a walk or a slow trot. We customize each and every ride to the level of experience for each of our riders.

Traveling further down the mountain path, the horseback riding tour will take you to the Anamuya River which we travel alongside and across several times. Those that want to get wet, can go deeper in the river when safe conditions are present and those that want the dryer route will take the higher path until we reach the bottom of our enchanting, secluded ranch.

After grabbing a complementary soda, water or fresh juice you can take a dip to cool off or stretch out on one of our hammocks. Then it is time to get your adrenaline pumping as you soar back across the river on our super safe and fun, double cable ACCT certified zip lines viewing the gorgeous scenery from a different perspective. Our professional guides will instruct you and assist you through every part of your zip line adventure. If you prefer, you can remain at the ranch and take photos of the others ziplining.

Take an eco-tour around our ranch and enjoy learning about the local plants and foods grown right at our farm! Enjoy a sampling of cocoa and learn how it is made into the chocolate we all love.

Once you've caught your breath we will mount up and begin our journey back. There's more time for some speed if you desire and plenty of more fun to experience.

We will dismount our horses at a beautiful oasis and discover the different scents and tastes of some of the finest tobacco in the world. Sample a cherry or chocolate cigar while they explain the methods in making the cigars. If you want to give it a try, they will assist you in rolling your own.

At the end of this fun filled day, hop back into the safari truck and travel back to your hotel or cruise ship terminal by 3:00 and 4:00 pm.

This excursion was awesome. It is not one that you book with the resort, so you know it's cheaper and not a cookie cutter trip with a bus load of people from the surrounding resorts. There were only 8 people in our group! We had our two daughters (ages 9 and 11) and two guides during the horseback riding. They made sure they were safe while at the same time letting the adults have a little fun and not be held back by the kids. After the riding was the zip lining followed by lunch (best we had all week). We then rode back on the horses and stopped at a cigar shop to check it out. We never felt rushed and we weren't pushed to buy anything like in a resort excursion (although I did buy a handful of cigars which were cheaper than the price of one cigar at the resort (and better). It was a nice relaxing day. Oh, like other reviewers said, because it is not booked through the resort, they will not let them onto the property so we had to go just outside the gate to be picked up. Just be sure to confirm the pick up location when booking. BTW, the riding - we walked, trotted and even galloped for a bit!

We did 4 excursions while in the DR and this was the absolute most incredible one. If you feel like you want to get out and see the local villages or taste true home cooked food but have reservations about going out in your own, this is the way to do it. This tour had local cigar rolling and smoking (if you want), horseback riding through the jungle, river, village. Zip lining through the jungle. Food made special for us. The tour guides were so so kind and genuine. They walked us through their land and showed us how they make cocoa and let us taste it freshly ground up. This was the most authentic experience, that put us up close and personal with the wonder local people from the DR. Plan to be there half the day though. But he entire time, they are interactive and you are always doing something. This was hands down the best excursion we went on. Feel free to ask me anything. There is so much more to tell about it.

Great excursion! We were driven about 40 mins to where we started the horseback portion of the trip. We spent about 35 minutes on the horses, who know the trail very well. Warning: the trail is narrow and steep in places, may be a little frightening for beginners. We arrived at the plantation for the zip lining portion of the day. The harnesses were very secure and the staff fun and knowledgeable. We then returned for a lunch of fried chicken and rice/beans, followed by a demonstration of how cocoa is made. Return trip by horseback and then visit a cigar shop. We had a wonderful time and the staff were excellent.

This was a fun tour. A little bit of everything. Toured the cigar factory and participated in cigar rolling, rice horses through the ranch and the river, did some ziplining, had a great lunch (the rice and beans were delicious), demonstration on how they make their cocao - got to taste test, and ended with a mamajuana toast. Our guide was Jose and he was so great. My husband got his contact info so that they could connect via FB. Everyone there was a lot of fun. They made the day awesome. We were worn out by the end of it. Take note- for this tour, it is really hot and humid. Take some water.

This is was an amazing activity. The tour guide was he BEST such an outgoing guy. All of the tour guides and employees were amazing with everyone. The tobacco shop was hospitable and non pushy it was a great relaxing time. The tour guide was knowledgable and showed us so much! The ride with horses was nice but the horses seemed so bored or something. Mine lost a horse shoe and had a sore on his L inner leg. The ride to the mountains was great though. Riding back was an issue because there were young boys on other horses riding past us. One little boy hit my leg and scratched me with his sattle and then looked at me like just move. These little boys made it unpleasant in the end. All in all, the best tour we did in PC.

This excursion was so fun. You start off at a cigar shop where you taste (Try the Cognac) and roll your own cigars. It was cool to learn the history and see it done. Riding the horses through the countryside, learning about all the fruit trees, plants, mountains was amazing and beautiful. They fed us a wonderful lunch. After that we went ziplining which was a first for me. It was so much fun. They also showed us how they make cocoa and let us taste it. It was delicious. The guides are so friendly. I would highly recommend this tour and this company.

I have to start off by saying I wasn't initially enthusiastic about this particular excursion as I'm afraid of heights and would rather admire horses from a distance. However I gave it a chance and I'm so glad I did. First of all, I can't speak highly enough about the staff. They were all so friendly and helpful. It was like they were your friends having fun right along with you. Our guide Jose was a riot. He had everyone laughing the whole time while also educating us about the local culture. I didn't realize that we would also be taken to a local cigar factory where you can sample cigars, watch the locals make them, and get a chance to make one yourself! Another bonus included a demonstration of how they process cocoa beans to make cocoa products. They let you taste the raw beans as well as the cocoa powder they make in front of you. The horseback ride up to the zip line portion of the tour was a nice pace for me being my first time riding. There we ate some real, local Dominican food which was the best food I had during my trip. Definitely better than the food at the resort, and I'm a picky eater. After the food and a safety demonstration, we proceeded to the zip lines. They hook you onto a cable the whole way up the tower so I felt secure. I was a little nervous when they were hooking me up to the lines the first time but as soon as I took off that all went away. I had a blast flying through the trees and above the ranch. Up to this point there was a very nice and friendly young man taking pictures of everyone the whole time and they put together a CD that you can purchase for $20. You can purchase any of the products they make there (cigars, coffee, cocoa products, real cane sugar, Mamajuana, etc.) but you are never pressured at all to buy anything. In fact, they had a tip jar at the dining area which they never even mentioned. The best part is all the profits go to the local community and not the resorts. After all that, the horseback ride back to the road took us on a different path and was at a little faster pace. The horses even galloped a couple times which I thought was so much fun. Don't worry, you have the option to ride back down in the truck if you want. I recommend taking the horses. The whole time the staff check up on everybody to make sure everything is OK. The only disappointment I had was that there was only $5 in the tip jar! Come on people, we can do better than that! These people work all day to ensure everybody has a great time. Show them some love! I will definitely be returning to the Dominican Republic and HorsePlay horseback riding and zip lining will for sure be one of my excursions again!

Everything was great until the ride home. To start the trip, they pick you up and take you over to the cigar factory, you the mount your horses and take a ride to the horseplay house. You then sit and have a homemade lunch which was delicious. Afterwards you go on 5 zip lines which were average. They were pretty short, and not too high. Then you get back on the horse and ride to a different meeting spot with the truck to bring you back. These trucks that are used are not the most comfortable and it seems the driver must’ve lost his way on the way back to our hotel. We went from 30 minute drive at the beginning to almost 2 hours on the way back to the hotel.

My wife, our daughter, her boyfriend and I had an outstanding time on this tour. Jose was friendly from the moment he picked us till the time he dropped us off. He provided us with information about the local town and economy. The cigar tour was great. we rolled our own and then got to keep it. we were given a free sample to try. I rarely smoke a cigar but you can certainly tell the difference between a fresh quality cigar and the stale stuff they sell on the beach.
We the proceeded to on our horse back adventure true farm land a river. We saw cattle and pigs and beautiful scenery. The staff was very attentive to everyone in our group. Making sure they felt safe. We rode to where we would have lunch and Zip line. The lunch was great. Rice, spaghetti, fried chicken, beans and coleslaw. Water and soda was provided as well.
We then proceeded to the Zip line area where we fitted with our harnesses. There were five sections to the Zip line. We were tethered and I felt very safe. Everyone of the staff was attentive and made sure we were excited and enjoying ourselves.
Once our group was finished we learned how cocoa was made from the beginning of the plant to the entire process. Again we got to sample the products. (We had done an other tour earlier in the week and they couldn't have rushed us any faster through their explanations if they tried).
During the tour a young man was taking pictures of our trip and downloaded onto a CD for purchase. $20!! You're not getting that kind of deal anywhere else for the memories you're going to have. We rode the horses back to where we started and the staff said goodbye.
On a side note that aside from a small sign at the lunch area saying tips were appreciated there was no mention during or at the conclusion of our tour. I highly recommend this tour if you want to see area, meet these awesome people and mostly have fun!

This was a great way to spend a full day, obviously a result of the activities, the group of individuals and our tour hosts. My pick up time was prompt at the hotel (8am), however I was the second pick up and we had numerous hotels to pick up thereafter which made for an extremely LONG drive to our first destination (I was aware picks up were between 8am-9:15am however approximately a 1 hour drive thereafter - I would have just been better prepared with snacks and water but I met a lovely couple from Ireland, a wonderful family of 5 from the US, interesting mother/daughter duo from Brazil and a couple of great university students on break so conversation was plentiful. Our transportation was open-air (tarps to pull down if it rained) and bench like setting but was par for the course … we were going horseback riding & zip lining for goodness sake! Jose was our tour host and provided some interesting and great information throughout the course of the day (and also had a great sense of humour!). Our first stop was a cigar making business (not a factory) where we got to smoke our choice of one of 10 different flavoured cigars (cognac, chocolate, etc.), and sampling of some beverages. We then moved on to where our horses were located (and the team was great at selecting horses that complimented skill levels) and we rode for just over an hour through the mountain and vegetation. We were hosted to a great lunch (fried chicken, rice & beans, salads, etc.) and then we were suited up to experience and ride 5 different zip-lines. After a bit of education and demonstration on a variety of plants/cocoa beans we mounted our horses for the ride back down the mountain and into our transportation buggy! The ride back to our hotels was a bit quicker - all and all a great day! Thanks Jose and your team of cowboys!!
