Monkeyland and Buggies = FUN!(*)(*)(*)(*)( )Recommended

Overall, this was a great experience! Transportation started off rough from the start. Supposed to be picked up at 7:50AM and didn't get picked up until a little after 8am. Had to switch buses right outside the gate, because there were not enough seats on the buses that picked us up. Made for a rough trip since it was a fairly long trip. We were seated on another bus that was pretty much full. We had kids and we all had to sit seperate, so that was a bad start. The lady (can't remember her name) that did our tour up to monkeyland was GREAT!! She did speak a little fast, so we had to really concentrate to understand her. She was super friendly and sweet! Our trip was on 12/26/19 from Hard Rock for buggies/Monkeyland.

The trip up the mountain was super bumpy. We finally got to the zip lines where we dropped a few people off so that made our transportation a little more comfortable for the short ride to monkeyland. They couldn't figure out exactly where everyone was supposed to go, so it was pretty unorganized.

Finally made it to Monkeyland - presentation was a little crazy about what to do and not to do, but then to the monkeys we went! AMAZING! This was such a fun experience and it was my 10 year olds favorite thing the whole trip! Would have been nice to be able to spend just a little more time with the monkeys and maybe get just a few more sunflower seeds as the monkeys grab them all on one swipe! LOL

Then we went to do a dominican experience tour. It was hot and not very exciting. It was nice learning about the culture, but the way that it was done wasn't very exciting. There were guides running into each other and everything because it was very unorganized.

Got the chance to buy a few things which was neat for the ones that wanted to do so.

We then went to a Dominican Lunch. Only negative was that there was only water to drink. Some tables had soft drinks and some did not. Our paperwork said that we would have soft drinks , but we did not. It would have been nice with that meal to have something besides water. Lunch was okay - better then I expected (bring snacks for picky eaters)

Then, we went and did the Buggies. PJ was our guide and he did great! He was fun and super helpful! We all had a great time. It had rained so there was a good bit of mud which made it more fun!

Loved that pictures were taken, just didn't have any great ones or we would have bought them. Its hard to when you have a bandana over most of your face! HA!

BUY BANDANAS BEFORE YOU GO! We watched them charge a family of 4 around $60.00 USD to buy four of them, which is REDICULOUS! I had two extras with me, so we just gave them to someone who needed them. Bring something to cover your backpack as ours got a little muddy which we just washed when we got back to the hotel. The swimming "hole" was a small stream and no one in our group swam. It didn't look very appealing to say the least. Small changing rooms are available at the swimming hole if you didn't wear your bathing suit.

Overall - excellent trip. Our trip down and back to the hotel was rediculously long and took over an hour and half to be dropped off at our resort (Hard Rock) Rode in one of the safari vehicles, so after awhile it was SUPER uncomfortable. Again, transportation was ROUGH for pretty much the entire trip. Monkeyland and Buggies were AWESOME and would definitely do both of them again. If transportation wasn't so overcrowded and it didn't take so long to get back to hotels, this trip would have received a 5 star!

We did Monkeyland and Jungle Buggies tour. Our kids are 14 and 17 and had a great time!! Our guide Wobin (young boy) was awesome!! He kept us all laughing and provided great information. The guides at Monkeyland were great and you can tell really care about the welfare of the monkeys. PJ at the jungle buggies was tons of fun and made sure everyone was safe. We had a great day and I would recommend this trip to families!! I have used this company in the past for excursions and have always had wonderful experiences!!

    Where to begin...
Great experience, learned about cocoa, coffee, and monkeys!!
The staff was fabulous and very friendly. Learned a lot and a great time.
We had a long ride in an open aired truck and got to see the lovely countryside. Drove up into the hills/mountain and the scenery was unbelievable. Learned out the various types of banana trees and other trees. “Car Wash” was our guide (you will have to figure that reference out yourself).
Met one of the “elfin” (see picture ).
Drank some awesome hot chocolate and coffee(remember you learn about it).
Then the highlight of monkey time. So much fun and laughter there. Thanks so much to Felipe and Eddie (monkey trainers) for a memorable experience. Will definitely go back next trip to the DR.

Monkeyland was great. They ensure you have tonnes of contact with the little guys. They climb all over you. One pooped down my husband's shirt. It was considered "lucky" ha ha ha. It felt very much like a well choreographed photo shoot but it was fun so it didn't matter. One high definition print is $10usd cash on site. No cash, no picture. We love our picture!

Coco house was really interesting. PJ, our guide, taught us all about the mountain villager's way of life including coffee and cocoa tasting.

Lunch was very traditional and delicious.

Jungle Buggies were so much fun. Again, a lot of staged photo ops but it didn't effect the thrill. You WILL get muddy. You can buy a handkerchief at the Zipline store for $5usd, to cover your face from dust and mud spray. Ours were so dirty after. Glad that it was on my face. High quality pictures, taken by Will Smith, are $40usd. It's all or nothing. Credit or cash is accepted.

All around, a spectacular day. Pick up was not too early and we were back to the Grand Bahia Principe by 1530.

This group is very well organized and everything is well maintained.

I did only the monkeyland with the two year old and my husband and two older boys (6 & 8) did the monkeyland and buggy combo. (Nobody ziplined)

We were separated at the beginning into different groups. Prior to monkey lander had a tour of a traditional home and learnt how cocoa, coffee, and coconut oil is harvested and produced. Following this was a sampling of coffee, chocolate and mamajuana with the opportunity to buy some of their products.

The monkey interaction started with a briefing in your declared language about safety and how to keep the monkeys healthy. (Do not touch the monkey, the monkey touches you 🐒). They provide you food and bowls to hold while the monkeys climb you. Be aware a lot of young children - including my youngest, did not like this part. Much preferred them from afar.

My husband and boys say the buggies were great with a well maintained trail system and vehicles. (Theirs were a Honda for seater). They were also provided a full lunch.

Overall we all had a great day with this impressive and exceptional tour group!

What can I say about this excursion from start to finish it was AMAZING. Our tour guide YoungBoy was extremely funny and at the same time very helpful, bus driver was very nice and a great driver.

Monkeyland was AMAZING the monkeys are very nice towards humans which is always a good sign, they don't live in cages or confined places and you can tell the staff really care for these beautiful animals.

Jungles buggies was so much fun, we had PJ as our "leader of the pack" and again he was also extremely funny but yet very helpful and loved what he done just like everybody we met on the excursion.

Overall 10/10 and if anybody goes to Dominican Republic for vacation you have to put this on your list as we have done many excursions in other countries but this is definitely one not to forget.

Hope to visit again some day. Keep up the great work runners adventures.

    PJ and YoungBoy!!
I’ll talk about them later. First...

The drive out to the mountains was like an hour, but I was very hungover so I was ok with that. They picked up exactly on time at 7:35am. We had to stop at another location to shuffle passengers and busses, but again, I was hungover and alright sitting in the AC for a while.
Monkeyland - the best. Holy cow. Do it. Do yourself a favor. Cutest experience ever. The monkeys are all over you. My only complaint? I wish we had more time with the monkeys.
Local Town - they walked us through a local town set-up and explained the coffee and chocolate beans and methods they use to get the flavors. They did the same with coconut oil. Had samples and everything. This part was alright. I could’ve done without it, but I understand it was part of the package. Then they took us to another room which was pretty much a sales pitch to sell us their products. Things like spices, honey, oils, and mamajuana. We got a bottle of mamajuana from them. The presenter was really funny though so it made sitting through the pitch alright.
Lunch - We went to another location and they had a little band playing and a traditional DR style lunch set up. This one was better than the other excursion we had. I think I figured out the seasoning in their ground beef. It was delicious. Chicken was great too. The fried Yuca was amazing.
Buggies! - All the online research we did said it was going to be messy. We came prepared with bandanas, but it wasn’t messy at all. Some people were really happy about that, but I wanted to get dirty and covered in mud. Oh well. Our guides for the buggies PJ and Youngboy were hilarious! They were energetic, worked very well together, played innocent pranks on the guests, laughed a lot and made sure we were laughing. We stopped and jumped in the river, they had more jokes, then we hit the trails again. If it hadn’t been for PJ an Youngboy making the whole thing so fun, I don’t think I would’ve been as satisfied with this part of the excursion. They definitely made it great. I’m sure they could just do a YouTube channel of them joking and it’d go viral.
Lastly, Hamlet. He was the logistics guy for the excursion. Making sure everyone was on the right bus, constantly making sure we got a water bottle every time we got on or off a bus, and had great communication. We were back by 3:30 and had a great time.
